The Road to Tenure: Working with Graduate Students

Mentoring graduate students is an important part of an academic career and crucial for success in many disciplines. At this session, you will learn some best practices for establishing productive relationships with graduate students, with attention to how faculty members can support graduate students across differences of race, gender, age, culture, etc. Attendees will also learn about key resources offered by the Graduate School for professional job placement of graduate students, particularly beyond the limited academic opportunities currently available.

This session will offer guidance on supporting faculty through tenure and promotion, include a discussion on motivational theory and how to apply it to promote and support your community, and provide suggestions for managing challenging situations.
